Why I Built This

I spend a lot of time on my computer, and it was taking a toll on my eyes and back. I often forgot to drink water or take breaks, which meant sitting for hours at a time. That's why I created Stay Healthy — a Chrome extension that reminds me (and anyone who uses it) to take a break, stand up, and look away from the screen every 20 minutes, following the 20-20-20 rule recommended by Healthline.

How it Works

Once installed, you simply click the extension and hit the “Keep me healthy” button. From that point, you'll be reminded every 20 minutes to take a break, stand up, and look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

The interval is fully customizable, so you can adjust it to fit your workflow. The extension works on any Chromium-based browser, including Chrome, Edge, and Arc.

Background

This extension was originally submitted as the final project for Harvard's CS50: Introduction to Computer Science course. It uses the Chrome Extension API with vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS to create a lightweight, privacy-respecting tool that helps prevent eye strain and promote healthier computing habits.
