manan Privacy Policy

manan does not collect, store, sell or share any personal data. There are no accounts, no servers, no advertising, no trackers and no analytics. What you write and record belongs to you and stays on your devices and in your own iCloud Drive.

Your notes are plain markdown files. They are saved in a “manan” folder in your iCloud Drive so they are available on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. This storage is provided and managed by Apple under your Apple Account; I never see your files and have no access to them. If iCloud Drive is turned off or unavailable, manan saves notes in its folder on your device instead.

Images you add to a note are copied into the same folder, and voice recordings are saved in its Attachments folder, so everything stays together and can be opened by any other app.

manan asks for microphone access only so you can record voice notes. Recordings are saved in your notes folder and are never sent to me or to any server run by me.

Transcription happens on your device using Apple’s on-device speech recognition. The first time you use a language, your device may download Apple’s speech model; that download is handled by Apple, and the audio itself is never uploaded for transcription. If on-device transcription is not available for your language, the recording is kept as audio without a transcript. On some systems iOS or macOS will also ask permission to use speech recognition; manan only requests on-device recognition.

Voice notes recorded on Apple Watch are transferred directly to your paired iPhone with Apple’s WatchConnectivity, and then saved like any other voice note. Your chosen theme is shared between the app, its widgets and your Apple Watch on your own devices so they match. Widgets, the Action Button and Shortcuts only open manan or start a note or recording; they do not send information anywhere.

• No name, email address or account information.
• No usage data, analytics, crash reports or diagnostics from the app.
• No location, contacts, photos library or advertising identifiers.
• No data is shared with or sold to third parties, because there is none to share.

manan contains no third-party SDKs. Apple may collect limited, anonymous information, such as App Store and crash reporting data you choose to share with developers, under its own privacy policy. I receive nothing from the app itself.

The About page in Settings links to my website, surajc.com, and to Buy Me a Coffee. Those open in your browser and are governed by their own privacy policies.

You can delete any note, recording or image in the app or in the Files app and Finder. Deleting manan from a device does not delete the notes in iCloud Drive; manage or remove them in Settings → your name → iCloud, or from the manan folder in iCloud Drive. You can turn off microphone access at any time in your device’s Settings.

manan is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Because manan collects no data, any change will be about how the app handles your files, not about data collection.
